The purpose of this website is to share the information collected with others, but also to collate that information to create a One Name Study of the name Hockridge and its variants (Hockeridge, Hawkridge, Hawkeridge, Hauckridge)

There are various definitions of the Hockridge surname. One of the main is that the name originates from a farmstead near Bideford and this is one myth I would like to either prove or disprove.

At this early stage I will just add what information I can and see how the site develops. Our family descends from Thomas Hockridge c1754 of Welcombe.

Please be aware this is very much my own interpretation of how the families go together and I welcome any corrections. This website was only started in April 2007 so a lot of information has still to be added.
